Seattle Sustainable Landscapes (SSL), a sustainable landscaping company based in Seattle, now offers ongoing landscape maintenance across all Mercer Island neighborhoods. SSL has offered landscape construction, design and build, and one-time services on the island, and now stays with those landscapes through the seasons as they mature.
The new maintenance service comes with a Mercer Island location at 9311 SE 36th St #108, Mercer Island, WA 98040, and a dedicated page at seattlelandscapes.com/mercer-island that describes each service in detail.

Maintenance shaped around the island
Mercer Island has tall conifers, sloping lots, and a shoreline that sets the weather. SSL’s maintenance practices follow that character:
- Electric equipment. Battery-powered tools keep mornings quiet and the air clean for neighbors, pets, and pollinators.
- Hand weeding. Crews work bed by bed, so roots come out and soil stays in place.
- Chemical-free care. Plant health comes from soil, water, and well-chosen plants.
- Invasive removal. Crews remove invasive species such as English ivy and Himalayan blackberry and make room for Pacific Northwest natives.
- Ecological deer management. SSL combines deer-resistant plants such as sword fern, Oregon grape, and salal with layered planting, terracing, raised beds, and motion-activated sprinklers to protect Mercer Island gardens.
Rooted in the community
SSL is a member of the Mercer Island Chamber of Commerce, and the team is committed to the authenticity of the island’s landscape and terrain. SSL brings PNW native plants, xeriscape principles, and water-efficient irrigation to Mercer Island yards, so that each landscape belongs to its place.
“Mercer Island asks for care that fits its terrain: tall conifers, sloping lots, and soil that has its own story,” said David McCary, owner of SSL. “We have built gardens here and, now, ongoing maintenance lets us stay with them as they mature. Hand weeding, quiet electric equipment, and ecological techniques keep each yard healthy, and the island’s character stays intact.”
Availability
Mercer Island homeowners and condo owners can request a maintenance estimate at seattlelandscapes.com/mercer-island/ or by calling (206) 806-7936. Homeowners who sign a 12-month maintenance agreement by November 30, 2026 receive one month free, so the year is billed as 11 months. SSL divides the annual cost into equal monthly installments, which keeps pricing steady through busy spring and fall seasons and brings year-round work to its crews.
